Online Queer Therapy Group
This group is an ongoing process type of group, intended to provide support to queer parents. We explore any issues that arise around queerness and parenting in a mindful and caring online format. This group in inclusive of all parents who identify with queerness. We are affirmative and inclusive of transgender and non-binary parents. We may spend time looking at positive parenting, mindful parenting, and similar ideas. We also have room to explore issues around societal influences that make queer parenting particularly challenging in this day and age. We will explore intersections of trauma, queerness and parenting.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and doctoral candidate through Western Institute for Social Research. I have run different parenting groups for many years, including transgender and queer parenting groups. I ran the Transgender Parenting Group through Our Family Coalition in San Francisco for many years. I have extensive experience as a teacher (preschool and K-12). I understand the various issues around raising children, from child development, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of children, modern day parental stressors, etc. I have been a practicing psychotherapist for almost 20 years and have been working and living in queer community for even longer. As a queer parent myself, I have a deep understanding of the complexities of this subject. I am non-pathologizing in my approaches and I seek to provide a safe haven to explore our issues around queer parenting. I am deeply committed to anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, and anti-transphobic principles.
Cost per group:
$50 per session, $200 for a series of 4
Other group information:
Groups will be held on my secure and private online videoconferencing platform. All you need is a computer, iPad or other device.
Groups occur Monday evenings 5:30-6:30 PM and occur every other week. We may increase the frequency, depending on need.
This is an ongoing ‘Come as You Are’ style group. Although there is no requirement to attend all the groups, you pay for a series of 4, and I ask that you let me know ahead of time if you will be attending the group.
We may do some meditation as part of becoming more mindful parents.
Although we will explore some tools and ideas, this group is not about advice giving, shaming, or using overly rigid ideas about ‘how to parent’.
This group offers a great amount of flexibility. You can be anywhere in California to join this group.
I believe that parents know their children best. I want to support your innate knowing and ability to parent from that centered knowingness.
